How to Read

I am bored.

Bored of sitting at home with a bizillion thoughts running through my head and no where to really put them.

I am reading Anne Sexton and it is like pop rocks on the brain.

You know you are reading something good when the words silence all things around you.

I love it when someone writes like that. Where I feel them in my head and I become a part of whatever it is they are saying.

I once checked out a book at the library from Vladimir Nabakov. He had written some essays on how to read books. You know the classical kind that are hard to get through like Dickens. I think he said at one point you have read a good book with your spine. Feel it from the base of you.

I remember that. I don't think I finished his book on essays - it was really thick so give me a break - but the spine thing always rang true to me. And not to get too sexual here...but that is how the start of an orgasm begins for me - at the base of my spine.

not that reading and sex should be confused with each other or done at the same time. Which I think if you really want to you could, it would give a whole new meaning to the term "climax".
